Our History

Photo of Rice's Team Member Rice’s began in 1941 when J.D. Rice began putting in yards, brush hogging fields and offering some basic landscape services. Since that time, The Rice family has continued to challenge the business to grow and change, pushing to always stay at the forefront of the industry.

Each generation has helped to further build and define the business. Second generation owner Thomas Rice expanded lawn services and added property maintenance. The third generation, led by Bryan and Kevin Rice, has added state-registered landscape architects and designers, horticulturists, nationally-certified landscape technicians and opened a retail garden center in 1990.

Bryan and Kevin became involved in the family business at an early age. Both later attended The Ohio State University, studying horticulture and landscape architecture, respectively. After graduating, both returned to help run the family business.

At Rice’s, we thrive on continuously improving our premier landscape services, as well as our techniques, training and operations. Bryan Rice, president, leads the business through change by challenging the status quo with a determined focus on quality landscape services. That drive and innovation has been at the core of our business since the beginning, and something we’re proud of cultivating here.

We began expanding our landscape production services in 2018, dedicating a new production facility to cater to our business growth in that area. The new production facility is housed in the location formerly occupied by the retail garden center, the Spring Garden Showroom, which no longer offers retail or re-wholesale services.

Now known as Northeast Ohio’s best-in-class provider, our team provides superior service in Estate Landscape Management, Custom Designed Landscapes and Commercial Grounds Services. From award-winning landscaping design and construction to full-service, proactive landscape maintenance plans for commercial and residential clients, Rice’s handles it all.
